The Hurdle-Rate Order | How $100 Oil & a 5% Treasury Are Sorting Asia’s Capital

A war in the Gulf has become Asia’s cost of capital, priced in Washington. Every Asian asset is now being re-scored against a 5%+ risk-free rate. Singapore shows what happens even to a haven when the hurdle rises; India shows what happens to a growth market that fails it on currency.

The fault line - In a multipolar order Asia was supposed to set more of its own prices. This autumn it is taking its discount rate from a Gulf war and a Federal Reserve it cannot influence. The markets that hold up are those whose plumbing, not their story, absorbs the shock.

Global Bond Update | Two Curves -- The US–China Yield-Curve Divergence

An asymmetry, not a mirror — an absorption problem on one side, a debt- deflation problem on the other — and the “diversification” bridge between them holds only in calm weather.

The signal is not symmetry. It is an absorption problem meeting a deflation problem, joined by a bridge that only holds in calm weather. Yields have become a map of global capital — the mistake is to read that map as a mirror. Fundamentals, through the noise.

Global Bond Market | The Issuer as Buyer

In a single early‐September session the US ten‐year touched 4.81% (a near three‐year high) with the thirty‐year back near a nineteen‐year peak; British yields hit their highest since 2008, Australian ten‐years a fifteen‐year high, German bund futures their weakest since 2011, and French OAT futures a record low.

August’s buyback — at least $4bn across ten‐ to thirty‐year bonds — was the yen‐era curve defense pointed inward, and it was overrun within weeks, the thirty‐year back near its high. The revived bond‐vigilante base case is the tell: bills funding repeat buybacks should the ten‐year reach 5% — a curve managed against its own gravity, with the issuer paying first in its own credibility.

After the Free-Money Era | What Fifteen Years ofNear Zero Interest Rates Left Behind

For fifteen years, money was almost free. That era is over — but it did not leave cleanly. It buried weak points across the financial system that only show themselves when interest rates rise, and some are still waiting to surface.
