IDBI Bank & Fairfax | Who Actually Benefits From India's Largest Financial-Sector FDI

A failed auction in March became a ₹52,878 crore sale in October. The cash goes to the state and to LIC. Whether ordinary Indians gain depends on what the new owner does with a bank that is holding far more capital than it lends.

What IDBI does establish is a workable process. Set the reserve price on fundamentals rather than a speculation-inflated share price. Write employee protections into the contract instead of offering open- ended state guarantees. Give the regulator a clear timetable for any ownership conflicts. If those lessons carry over, the next PSU bank sale will be less about whether the state is willing to sell and more about whether a bank of comparable quality is on offer. At present, few are.

Tata Sons | The Fight Moves to the Price

RBI Closes Tata Sons’ Last Exit from Mandatory Public Listing

The Board Accepts the Listing; the Trusts Counter With a Buyout and a Legal Reading. The RBI's order was meant to end the uncertainty around Tata Sons. Two weeks on, it has done the opposite — converting a compliance question into a contest over control, timing, and the one thing the letter never fixed: what the holding company is worth, and who gets to set the number.

RBI Closes Tata Sons’ Last Exit from Mandatory Public Listing

Tata Sons|The Holding Company Comes Into the Open. RBI Closes Tata Sons’ Last Exit from Mandatory Public Listing

The RBI has closed Tata Sons' last exit from a mandatory public listing. Beneath a corporate-governance headline sits the larger move: a banking regulator asserting market discipline over the private holding-company architecture through which India's business houses have long kept control out of public view.

The Denial & the Drawdown | How India's Reserve Opacity Became a Policy Instrument

The June dispute over whether the RBI sold $12 billion of gold was never resolvable — and that is the point. India has acquired a reserve-management doctrine in which denial and drawdown coexist inside the reporting calendar, and an intervention posture that makes the ambiguity useful. For allocators, the question was never whether the sale happened. It is that a structural accumulator's bullion is now contingent FX liquidity — and its disclosure seam is now a policy instrument.

Step back from India and the episode reads as a data point in a broader migration. Gold's share of the reserve stack has climbed as central banks treat it as a hedge against dollar and geopolitical risk.
