IDBI Bank & Fairfax | Who Actually Benefits From India's Largest Financial-Sector FDI
A failed auction in March became a ₹52,878 crore sale in October. The cash goes to the state and to LIC. Whether ordinary Indians gain depends on what the new owner does with a bank that is holding far more capital than it lends.
What IDBI does establish is a workable process. Set the reserve price on fundamentals rather than a speculation-inflated share price. Write employee protections into the contract instead of offering open- ended state guarantees. Give the regulator a clear timetable for any ownership conflicts. If those lessons carry over, the next PSU bank sale will be less about whether the state is willing to sell and more about whether a bank of comparable quality is on offer. At present, few are.

The Hurdle-Rate Order | How $100 Oil & a 5% Treasury Are Sorting Asia’s Capital
A war in the Gulf has become Asia’s cost of capital, priced in Washington. Every Asian asset is now being re-scored against a 5%+ risk-free rate. Singapore shows what happens even to a haven when the hurdle rises; India shows what happens to a growth market that fails it on currency.
The fault line - In a multipolar order Asia was supposed to set more of its own prices. This autumn it is taking its discount rate from a Gulf war and a Federal Reserve it cannot influence. The markets that hold up are those whose plumbing, not their story, absorbs the shock.

The Denial & the Drawdown | How India's Reserve Opacity Became a Policy Instrument
The June dispute over whether the RBI sold $12 billion of gold was never resolvable — and that is the point. India has acquired a reserve-management doctrine in which denial and drawdown coexist inside the reporting calendar, and an intervention posture that makes the ambiguity useful. For allocators, the question was never whether the sale happened. It is that a structural accumulator's bullion is now contingent FX liquidity — and its disclosure seam is now a policy instrument.
Step back from India and the episode reads as a data point in a broader migration. Gold's share of the reserve stack has climbed as central banks treat it as a hedge against dollar and geopolitical risk.
