The Memory Squeeze | Micron Soaring & Apple Raising Prices is the Same Story

AI companies are buying one special kind of memory chip by the truckload to build their data centres. The three firms that make memory — Micron, SK Hynix, Samsung — have pointed their factories at that high-value AI memory and away from the ordinary memory in laptops and phones. Ordinary memory is now scarce, so its price has more than doubled. Micron, which sells the chips, is posting record profits. Apple, which buys them, just raised prices on Macs and iPads. Same shock — opposite ends.
