Singapore writes the Rulebook for Tokenised Money | Bloom & the Contest for ASEAN’s Settlement Layer

Fault Lines Series | The Multipolar Order

In twelve months, MAS has taken Bloom from a domestic settlement sandbox to a regional standard-setting club. Whoever writes the rules for how tokenised money moves across ASEAN borders decides which rail the region’s trade settles on.

Bloom’s expansion is a small announcement with a large implication. Singapore is not trying to issue the region’s money. It is trying to write the rules that the region’s money must follow when it crosses a border. Malaysia and Thailand signing on makes those rules a regional proposition. Thailand’s parallel seat in mBridge keeps the contest open. For allocators, the payoff will come from which instrument wins the corridor, not from the announcement itself, and the first live transactions will give the earliest real signal.
